Bill and Kay Tabbert’s dream of one day operating their very own restaurant began in 1974 at “Arndt’s” in Plymouth, WI. After managing Arndts for two years, life took them away from the restaurant business until 1987.
In February of 1987 Bill, Kay and now with two sons, Adam and Nick at their sides, realized their dream of operating their own restaurant and opened “Tabbert’s Restaurant” on the South side of Rosendale, WI. The business had previously been Peachy’s and prior to that, began in 1953 as the “Y go By Restaurant” opened by Robert Kastenschmidt. The restaurant has been a favorite of locals, travelers and truckers ever since.
Tabbert’s menu from the start consisted of homemade meals, lunch specials, soups, pies and deserts. Tabbert’s menu has not strayed too far from the original in 25 years. Breakfast has always been the meal which always leaves a great impression on customers, with pancakes bigger than a large plate, French toast 2 inches thick, eggs made to order, mounds of fresh American fries and hash browns, biscuits and sausage gravy and thick cut toast. Tabbert’s Friday fish fry has also been a favorite of old customers and new ones alike, offering fresh frozen perch, walleye and haddock dinners breaded by hand in their homemade breading. You would be hard pressed to find a customer who has walked out their doors not satisfied after a meal.
In 2010 their son Nick returned to the restaurant business and brought with him new menu additions to complement their already delicious offerings on their evening menu.
The major changes were the addition of homemade brick oven pizzas, extending their evening hours until 9:00pm seven days a week and delivery after 4:00pm, for a nine mile radius around Rosendale. Along with the pizzas, Tabbert’s now offers new items across their evening menu as well as a new cocktail and beer menu. From breadsticks and boneless wings to wraps and fettuccini alfredo made to order from scratch. You can even have their world famous breakfast for dinner.
So the next time you are driving through Rosendale, hungry for a delicious homemade meal or looking for a new place to try, stop in at Tabbert’s Restaurant, the Tabbert family guarantees you will not be disappointed.
Bill, Kay, Adam and Nick wish to thank all the past, present and future customers for patronizing them for the past 25 years!
